5- Metacognitive reflection




Why reading? 
to understand the subject matter.

Strategies:

  1. Highlight, underline, anotate key concepts on the text. 
  2. Identify main ideas; topic, aspects, examples. 
  3. Summarize. 
  4. Ask questions and answer them. 
  5. Think of other examples. 
  6. SQ3R: Survey, question, read, recite, review. 
  7. 3R: Preview (attention), read, recall (storage) 


Benefits of reading and its relationship with writing:

  • Annotating or adding notes alongside the text helps to summarize it and to extract the main idea, the key concepts and our study questions. 
  • It provides context to understand the subject matter to develop in writings. 
  • It constitutes sources to find key arguments for writing. 
  • It guarantees base knowledge to discuss in writings. 
  • Valuable readings and supplementary material are needed to develop proper arguments for writing. 
  • Writing can be considered a strategy to recall the text which will be then stored in the long term memory.
